It's fairly simple. You enter a way too long URL such as

and we generate a much shorter URL like

Copy that shorter link and paste it wherever you like. It simply redirects to the original URL.
Well, it's much easier for sharing, tweeting or mailing, isn't it? Yes, because it's shorter! :-)
